Proposition 8 Crucial Vote in Culture Battle

From OneNewsNow:

The vote in California, Wildmon explains, will affect the entire nation. “California is a big dam, holding back the flood — and if you take down the dam in California, it’s going to flood 49 other states,” he illustrates. “It will destroy marriage as it has been known for thousands of years, and with that the cultural decline that normally would follow.”

Yes, indeed. You midwesterners need to understand this. California is not Delaware. There are 38 million Americans in California. Many of them came from your state, and many are going back to your state. Furthermore the sad reality is that California’s media predominance sets the cultural tone for the entire nation. Midwesterners who sneer at the “left coast” are nevertheless avid consumers of California media culture. They complain about today’s left coast outrage while embracing yesterday’s left coast outrage. Prayers, rather than sneers, are in order and most appreciated.

As an aside, the consensus among my business contacts – totally secular people so far as I know – is that the relentless fires in California are a divine chastisement for the supreme court ruling on same-sex marriage (among other things). I don’t know about that, but it does give one pause.

Speaking of the fires, here in the valley we are still under a heavy and extremely depressing blanket of brown smoke. Lately you can even see the ashes falling like snowflakes. Combined with the 105-110 degree heat, being outdoors is absolutely miserable. It has been especially miserable for my chickens: we lost four more laying hens this week. Once it hits 105 they start dropping like flies. By the end of summer I expect we’ll be left with exactly one rooster and nothing else.
