Chico Latin Mass update – St. Therese Chapel

We received some good news at Mass this morning: the Society of Saint Pius X has formally agreed to assume responsibility for St. Therese Chapel in Chico. The chapel, located at 367 E. 8th Avenue, had been operating independently for many years. Holy Mass is presently celebrated on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month at 10:00am.

This is a highly significant development in my opinion. The traditional Latin Mass now has a degree of stability and permanence in the north valley.

  1. Great! Let’s hope that in a few years a school can be started to further stabilize the parish. Nothing firms up the foundation of a Mass like a good school!

  2. Agreed, David, that would be terrific. But it would take lots of new blood for that to happen. The first step is to grow enough to justify a weekly Mass. The priests commute from the Bay Area about 3 or 4 hours away.

      • True. God’s plans, God’s time. Perhaps with this development a few more orthodox Catholics will consider settling in Chico. It’s really a desirable little city in many ways. But St. Marys it ain’t!

      • True, but it will be someday. In the mean time, you have been Blessed and the word will get out far and wide, given time. Our truck drivers will probably be there occasionally also, when their deliveries take them in the area on a weekend route.

  5. This is great news! Thanks be to God and thank you for letting us know. We are planning to move to Chico if we can find a very inexpensive place to rent. I am encouraged by this blog and look forward to the e-mails.

  6. Is the Latin Mass still being said on the first and third Sunday’s of the month? My husband and I travel from Grass Valley to Sacramento weekly for the traditional mass and we’d like to see what else is out there. Thank you!
