Bishop Salvatore Matano to celebrate TLM

“Desirous of fulfilling the pastoral needs of those who seek the celebration of the Sacred Liturgy according to the rite of the 1962 Roman Missal, I will celebrate Holy Mass in this extraordinary form on the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, August 15, 2007, at Saint Joseph’s Co-Cathedral at 7:00pm …”

Is this not incredible? The ancient Mass returning to the cathedrals. Catholic bishops leading the way. Who even dared to dream of such a thing in years past? Expect to see more stories like this. Bishops and priests can now lead with confidence, knowing that the Holy Father stands squarely behind them. There is something “in the air” with this pontificate. Tradition is beginning to breathe freely again, without fear of reprisals.

  1. This is a perfect example of how the MP will help holy priests and bishops recapture Catholicism. Bishop Matano is one of the good guys. He’s only been there since November 2005, and he inherited a horribly dysfunctional diocese. His predecessor, Kenneth Angell, always refused an indult. Bishop Matano hasn’t granted an indult to date, because the Vermont diocese has a serious shortage of priests, but by taking the lead himself, I expect he’ll end up with one soon!

  2. Dear Bishop Matano,
I just heard on the news that Vermont Catholic Churches will be offering Mass in Latin. Well, its about time. I have been waiting for 35 years. Mass should not sound like a hootenanny.
Can’t wait to use my St. Joseph’s missal.
This is the best idea the church has had in years.
Maybe we can get the altar rails back.

  3. I used to attend the indult TLM at St. Peter’s in Troy, but as it is so far I haven’t had the chance to celebrate the extraoridinary form. I will be driving up from Rutland County with my 1962 Missal and high hopes. Deo Gratias!
