About
Stony Creek – a tributary of the Sacramento River originating in the Coast Range Mountains – is the lifeblood of rural Glenn County, California (pop. 28,000). In 1910 the waters of Stony Creek opened up the region for settlement by means of a federal water reclamation project. Cheap, irrigated land attracted settlers from all over the country but predominantly from the midwestern states, turning these desolate plains and prairies into productive farms and communities.
I’m a 45 year-old traditional Catholic, a married father of six, and a fourth-generation Californian. In this space you can expect commentary on religion, culture, politics, homesteading, regional issues, and things merely personal. The title of this web log is meant to suggest local priorities – that is to say, a commitment to the good of my family and neighbors who live within a “stone’s throw” of Stony Creek. I can be reached by e-mail at: jeff.culbreath@gmail.com.

"If a conservative order is indeed to return, we ought to know the tradition which is attached to it, so that we may rebuild society; if it is not to be restored, still we ought to understand conservative ideas so that we may rake from the ashes what scorched fragments of civilizations escape the conflagration of unchecked will and appetite." - Russell Kirk
