About
I’m a 46 year-old married father of six, a traditional Catholic, and a fourth-generation Californian living in Chico. In this space you can expect commentary on religion, culture, politics, local history, and things of personal interest. The title of this weblog is an allusion to an obscure bit of Chico history linking the forest in our neighborhood to the mystical Sherwood Forest of merrie olde England. I can be reached by e-mail at: jeff.culbreath@gmail.com.

- "If a conservative order is indeed to return, we ought to know the tradition which is attached to it, so that we may rebuild society; if it is not to be restored, still we ought to understand conservative ideas so that we may rake from the ashes what scorched fragments of civilizations escape the conflagration of unchecked will and appetite." - Russell Kirk

I don’t watch television save EWTN when I am hospitalized at the local Catholic hospital on occasion, so I had heard of Fr. Corapi but never saw him. Given the sad state of affairs regarding the Church in Chicago where, it seemed not that long ago that Francis Cardinal George offered hope for his orthodoxy and strong faith, we are in deep need of prayers and contrition. Letting a contributor, albeit indirectly, to abortion like Fr. Pfleger run amok, is tantamount to dereliction of duty by the Cardinal.
Mr. Hetman: Fr. Corapi is a local gem, a priest here in the diocese of Sacramento. I’m glad he’s becoming better known elsewhere. I hope your hospitalizations will be less frequent in the future. Thanks for the comment.
