TLM returning to San Luis Obispo County

More California renaissance news. According to this story at SanLuisObispo.com, the TLM will be returning to San Luis Obispo County in September. The Diocese of Monterey, now headed by Bishop Richard Garcia, is taking the initiative here. I can tell you that Bishop Garcia was actively working to bring the TLM to his diocese even before the Motu Proprio was issued. I suspect this is a result of his exposure to the good fruits at St. Stephen the First Martyr in the Diocese of Sacramento, where he served under Bishop William Weigand as auxiliary bishop.

  1. That’s pretty big news… I know that the traditional mass is currently offered privately twice during the week (not Sunday) in Guadalupe, CA, which is about 10 minutes west of Santa Maria. I expect things will improve there as well… we’ll see.

  2. It is good news that the TLM will be returning to the Monterey diocese. I have heard good things about their new bishop, and I was expecting this would happen soon.

However, the article shows so much misunderstanding of the TLM and of what the motu proprio means. And the comments were absolutely disgusting. Things like that really convince me of Archbishop Sheen’s statement that people hate what they think the Church is rather than what she actually is. However, I also become convinced that most people will never understand what she is, nor even will they take the time to learn what she actually claims to be.
